What are the most important types of cover?
This depends entirely on your circumstances. You may want to safeguard your home through mortgage protection, or protect your business against the illness of a key member of staff. If you have young children, you may want to ensure they are financially secure, or you may want reassurance that you'll be looked after if you have a serious illness. Your protection should be tailored to your individual lifestyle and needs.
Why would I want income protection?
This is offered as part of the benefit range and allows you even more choice, making your level of cover even more flexible. This is a key benefit on our menus and can be taken as a benefit on its own or together with other benefits. This cover is also flexible and can be increased or reduced at any time during the benefit term.
Why should a mortgage protection policy change over time?
Moving house is an obvious reason for change, but there are many others. A mortgage protection policy can help protect you from the financial consequences of death, long-term illness or disability. Therefore, it should be tailored to meet your circumstances and adjusted when they change.
With AEGON Scottish Equitable Protect Mortgage Protection, does the type of mortgage make any difference?
Our policies can be arranged to cover any type of mortgage.
Can I add other benefits while the policy is in force?
The following benefits can be added at any time, subject to an underwriting process, where we consider your application.
- The waiver of premium option keeps the policy in force during a disability without you having to pay any more premiums.
- The renewal option allows you to renew your policy every five or ten years without medical evidence, instead of choosing a fixed term.
- The indexation option increases the benefit you would receive in the event of a claim each year to account for the effects of inflation.
- Total and permanent disability benefit allows benefit to be paid in cases of permanent disability
- You can choose between three definitions of disability:
- being unable to work at the normal occupation
- being unable to work at all
- being unable to carry out some of the activities of everyday life
How do I make a claim?
You should contact us as early as you can about a potential claim and we will send you a form to complete. Once we have received this completed form, one of our claims assessors will be in touch and will keep you updated on the progress of your claim. Your benefits will be paid monthly direct into a bank or building society account of your choice.
