Our comprehensive critical illness package includes the benefit of our RED ARC care advisory service – at no additional cost to you.
The RED ARC service aims to make sure that a member suffering from a critical illness will be given the assistance they need to help with a range of issues, for example dealing with the discomfort of cancer treatments or regaining their fitness after a heart attack. It provides individual help and advice, designed to make the lives of the employee and their family easier.
And it's available on a claims made, not a claims paid, basis. In other words, regardless of whether we accept or reject the claim, the employee still has access to RED ARC. We recognise that even though a claim might not meet our policy definition, the person is still ill and could benefit from the help and support of RED ARC's nurses.
85% of our group critical illness claimants used the service, year to date, 2008. We think this shows that it genuinely helps people.
Benefits for you
You can use the service when an employee (or close family member) is diagnosed with a specified critical illness. You can speak with a RED ARC nurse adviser to understand more about the illness, its symptoms, treatment and the impact on the employee and their family.
For example, if an employee has been diagnosed with cancer their treatment might involve surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. By contacting RED ARC you'll be able to establish:
- when a return to work would be likely
- what the treatment involves
- any side effects of the treatment
- the impact on the employee's ability to work
- what RED ARC is doing to help
Please note that due to strict patient confidentiality rules the nurse adviser won't be able to discuss the specifics of an identifiable individual case.
Benefits for your employees
- Practical and emotional support tailored to their personal circumstances - on a claims made, not a claims paid, basis.
- Service can be extended to family members.
- No extra cost to the employee and no time limit on how long they can use the service.
