SIPP

Learn about SIPP

What's a SIPP?

SIPP stands for self-invested personal pension - it can also be referred to as self-investment. Essentially, this is a facility on a personal pension where you can choose your own investments rather than only having the choice of the investments a pension company offers you. In the past, pension companies may have only had a small number of funds for you to choose from and these may not have suited your style of investment.

Self-investment allows you to choose the funds and investments that you want. These can still include funds from the pension company - there are now a lot more to choose from - as well as unit trusts, open-ended investment companies (OEICs), investment trusts and other assets such as property. At AEGON Scottish Equitable we allow you to mix and match these investments to suit you.

Why would I choose these investments for my pension?

You could buy many of the investments listed above direct from a fund manager. However, by combining all of these investments into a pension, you gain tax relief on your contribution and your assets are easier to manage as they're all in one place. As we're a large company, we can often negotiate better deals with fund managers than individual investors can.

We've also developed a range of online tools to help you and your financial adviser keep track of all your investments which can save you time and money. But, above all, by using self-investment you can develop your own unique investment portfolio that's specific to your needs and aims.

Please remember benefits are not guaranteed and the value of investments may go down as well as up.
